The Teardrop Explodes - Kilimanjaro (1980)

A true gem of post-punk Kilimanjaro by the Julian Cope led group The Teardrop Explodes highlights an energy and sound that is devilishly spirited in playing with heavy funk beats, and a krautrock ambiance.

The album's near flippant take on pop, will put listeners into a trance-like stare as they are dumbfounded trying to find a threaded meaning behind the album's whacked out tracks and gazy melodies. Don't think too hard when listening to this one.

An album review of Kilimanjaro may be found here.

Love this record. I just wrote a feature on the origins of The Teardrop Explodes band name if you'd like to take a look - http://thequietus.com/articles/09596-the-teardrop-explodes . I got to talk to everyone involved (except Cope, unfortunately), even Gerry Conway, who wrote the Daredevil issue they found the name in.
