The Post Punk Nightmare
What is post-punk?
Is it just a blanket name thrown about bands that came out the rebellion that was punk music? Is it a genre that took shape in experimental sounds and deviations in a heady mix of brash noise and youth driven vigor? Or is it a musical substance that defied strata in a ravenous explosion of expression and attitude? Post punk is all of those and so much more; post punk did not simply create sounds but it actually reformed what music could be, penetrating listeners with an unmitigated fury, angst, and love of life.
But it didn't end there. As someone once said post-punk was made by the members of punk rock who learned how to play their instruments; post-punk delivered a more intricate sound while harnessing the piss and vinegar of hardship. Like the bang of a grenade post-punk sent its shrapnel in all directions giving an almost unlimited freedom in creativity that still gives much of the good music of today a throbbing vitality.
This blog will focus on sharing my own passion for both post-punk pioneers and all artists who were influenced, or who did the influencing such a rapacious, and radiant era in music.
